MAGA Supporter and Alt-Right Domestic Terrorist, Nikolas Cruz, shot and killed 17 people this past Wednesday at a Parkland, Florida high school. The 19-year-old who had been expelled from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for his past violence and disciplinary issues returned to said school with an AR-15, a semi-automatic rifle, and apparently weapon of choice among mass murderers of his kind. The AR-15 was used in almost all of the deadliest mass shootings in the United States, including but not limited to Las Vegas, Aurora, San Bernardino, Orlando/Pulse Nightclub, and Sandy Hook. Investigators believed he pulled the fire alarm in order to draw people out of classrooms before opening fire on students and faculty.
Cruz had been kicked out of two private schools and had been held back twice. His social media presence can only be described as really disturbing and super suspect. Cruz was an avid Donald Trump supporter who posted a variety of gun and violence related content. He also posted charming comments such as, "I whana shoot people with my AR-15," "I wanna die fighting killing sh*t ton of people," and "I am going to kill law enforcement one day they go after the good people."
Donald Trump tweeted the following in regards to the latest massacre placing the blame on Cruz's peers. "So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!" Right, because Congress, NRA funded politicians, Gun Manufacturers, and THE ACTUAL PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA have no fault in this.
Buzzfeed reported that Cruz's behavior had in fact been reported to authorities. A YouTube vlogger noticed a comment by Cruz on one of his videos. "I'm going to be a professional school shooter." 36-year-old Ben Bennight emailed a screenshot of the comment to the FBI and flagged the comment on YouTube. Bennight was interviewed the following day (Sept. 25th, 2017) but ever nothing came of it because I guess the FBI was too concerned with black identity extremists. Cruz had bought his firearms in the past year, passing the background check necessary to make the purchase. So, my only question here is, how does a 19-year-old with such a violent past and alarming social media presence obtain an AR-15, LEGALLY?
This isn't a conversation about gun control anymore. This is a conversation about common sense and the logic of Conservatives, Republicans, Right-Wingers, and etc. completely blows my mind. I really just need someone to break it down for me because I don't understand how they can kick and scream about how "illegals" are destroying this country via DACA, but when real sh*t happens the best they can do is offer up thoughts and prayers. I'm fully convinced that if Jesus came down to Earth himself, he wouldn't be able to pry that AR-15 out of their blood-soaked hands.
Gun Control is not about getting rid of the 2nd Amendment. It's also not a complete and total ban. There are laws that we can put in place that would prevent situations such as these. I'm over this narrative where conservatives argue that these people will always find a way. How many more people have to die before we can admit that we have a serious problem with guns in America? How many more people are we willing to sacrifice before we finally have this conversation? This isn't about just giving criminals another hoop to jump through. It's about honoring those who have already lost their lives to gun violence and protecting those that are still living. It's so that no one has to wake up and say, "We see it on the news all the time, but I never thought this could happen to me."
